Second round: 6-and 6 ½ octave Viennese piano
Choose one each from the Groups 1 and 2 to make a 35-40 minute program.
Group 1.
Schubert: Any three Moments Musicaux or any one of the Impromptus from D. 899 & D. 935
Beethoven: A set of four Bagatelles (not necessarily in the original order) from Opus 119 or 126
Group 2. One sonata selected from the following:
Beethoven:
- Op. 81a in E-flat Major
- Op. 90 in E minor
- Op. 101 in A Major
- Op. 109 in E Major
- Op. 110 in A-flat Major
Weber:
- Op. 39 in A-flat Major
- Op. 70 in E minor
Hummel:
- Op. 81 in F-sharp minor
Schubert:
- D. 784 in A minor
- D. 845 in A minor
- D. 850 in D Major
- D. 958 in C minor
- D. 959 in A Major
If necessary to complete the allotted 40 minutes, any work of the contestant’s choice written between 1800 and 1830 not duplicating selections the candidate has played in the first round. (The candidates are advised to avoid having all selections in the second round by the same composer.)
Final round (60-minute program)
- Any work or works of the contestant’s choice not duplicating those played by the candidate previously; any piano from the first two rounds may be selected.
- Beethoven: One trio from Op. 1 (No. 1 in E-flat Major, No. 2 in G Major or No. 3 in C minor), with violinist Elizabeth Field and cellist Stephanie Vial.
